Legal Transcription Course - The course is composed of 5 modules and 3 CDs.

The module titles are:

 
  • Module 1: Covers the English language (grammar basics, punctuation, etc.), and Latin words and phrases as used in transcription of legal documents. This module also introduces the student to citations and legal transcription tips.Computing and Keyboarding Skills for Medical Transcription

  • Module 2: This module introduces the student to computers and keyboarding. It teaches the student how to operate the computer (from power on to power off), while at the same time trains the student on proper keyboarding skills. After finishing this module, the student will be able to adeptly manipulate his/her PC, use the MS Word, the Internet, audio players, do simple troubleshooting, and type at a reasonable speed. This module comes with a CD for a practice audio file and typing software to install, which means after finishing this module the student is expected to also have already known how install a program.

  • Module 3: This module introduces the student to medical terminology. A legal transcriptionist needs to be exposed to medical terminology because at some time in their career, he/she may be faced with a medico-legal case.

  • Module 4: This module deals with anatomy and physiology. As with module 3, this module is needed to prepare the student for the possibility of being faced with medico-legal cases, where a lot of body parts will be mentioned in the dictation (such cases like motor-vehicular accident(s), medical malpractice suits, health insurance claims, etc.) This module also comes with a CD which contains audio files for the pronunciation of various medical terms.

  • Module 5: This is a module on paralegal training. It introduces the student to the US justice system - business law, family law, real estate law, bankruptcy law, torts and litigation, wills, contracts, legal forms, etc. By understanding the law, the transcriptionist will be able to execute the job intelligently and effectively. It comes with a CD which contains practice audio files (46 reports which will further enhance the skills of the student, and exposes the student to more legal forms and various legal documents.

HTML: This course presents the basic skills needed to use HTML and CSS style sheets for building a Web page. It is for anyone who needs to understand how HTML is used to develop pages for the World Wide Web.

Negotiating: This course explains how to get past emotional blocks into the final stages of offers and counteroffers to close a negotiation. It is for anyone who wants to get the most out of using smart negotiating skills in business or daily situations.

UNIX (Shell Programming): This course presents the basics of shell programming using the Bourne shell, then covers additional features of the Korn and C shells. This is for anyone who is new to UNIX or wants to expand what they already know about UNIX.

Windows 2000 Server: This course shows you how to configure network services that provide interoperability for Novell, Windows, and Macintosh, how to create and manage local users and groups, how to share folders, how to implement shared and local security, how to create and manage Distributed File System (DFS) structures, and how to share and secure folders using Web services.

Microsoft Excel 2000: In this course, you will look at the Excel 2000 features used when working with cells, including entering data into cells, editing cells, moving cells, and creating hyperlinks in a spreadsheet.
